Corrosion, fatigue and wear of additively manufactured Ti alloys for orthopaedic implants
نویسندگان
چکیده
Additive manufacturing (AM) allows for the fabrication of custom orthopaedic implant devices which have complex geometries and similar mechanical properties to bone. This paper reviews corrosion, fatigue wear AM Ti alloys confirm their safety use in implants. Specifically, lattice are highlighted due improved osseointegration better modulus matching with that bone, making them an attractive option more durable devices. Finally, current implants made via compared conventional methods overall safety.

متن کاملAdditively Manufactured Porous Biomaterials and Implants
Recent advances in additive manufacturing (AM) techniques (otherwise known as 3D printing) have enabled fabrication of a new class of porous biomaterials (Figure 1) with arbitrarily complex and precisely controlled topologies that e.g. resemble the geometry and micro-architecture of (trabecular) bone. Since the geometry of scaffolds and biomaterials is an important factor in bone tissue regener...

Severe bone atrophy jeopardizes the success of endosseous implants. This technical note aims to present the innovative concept of additively manufactured sub-periosteal jaw implants (AMSJIs). Digital datasets of the patient's jaws and wax trial in occlusion are used to segment the bone and dental arches, for the design of a sub-periosteal frame and abutments in the optimal location related to t...

Three Mg alloys, Mg-1.34% Ca-3% Zn (MCZ), Mg-1.34% Ca-3% Zn-0.2% Sr (MCZS), and Mg-2% Sr (MS), were examined to understand their bio-corrosion behavior. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and polarization scans were performed after 6 days of immersion in cell culture medium, and ion release and changes in media pH were tracked over a 28 day time period. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of...
متن کاملFatigue Performance of Ti-6Al-4V Additively Manufactured Specimens with Integrated Capillaries of an Embedded Structural Health Monitoring System
Additive manufacturing (AM) of metals offers new possibilities for the production of complex structures. Up to now, investigations on the mechanical response of AM metallic parts show a significant spread and unexpected failures cannot be excluded. In this work, we focus on the detection of fatigue cracks through the integration of a Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system in Ti-6Al-4V specim...
